Bikes for All Facilitator

 

The Wee Spoke Hub is a community bike workshop space at the Shrub Swap and Reuse Hub in central Edinburgh. Our ‘Bikes for All’ project (funded by Cycling Scotland) aims to overcome barriers to cycling faced by groups within the Edinburgh area, by providing people with bikes which have been donated to the Wee Spoke Hub, fixed up and safety-checked by our team of volunteers.

 

Outline of role:

In this role, volunteers are asked to facilitate the Shrub’s side of the Bike for All project. Specifically, volunteers will prepare, open and close the workshop, welcome new volunteers to the workshop, help other volunteers to fix up bikes and ensure that adequate records are kept. Additionally, volunteers will be asked to join the Bikes for All mailing list ensure effective communication between the group.

 

Skills, experience and attitude needed:

  • extensive bike maintenance knowledge
  • very reliable and punctual
  • outgoing personality
  • a patient, sociable and non-judgemental attitude

When/how many hours:

Every Wednesday 4:45-8pm.

 

As a volunteer you will also be part of the Wee Spoke Hub working group which meets regularly to make decisions about all things Wee Spoke Hub. Volunteers are encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings and Shrub open meetings.

How to apply/what happens next:

Please send an e-mail to theweespokehub@gmail.com with a short description of yourself, why you are interested in this role and your current level of bike maintenance knowledge. All new volunteers will be invited to come along for a short induction in which you will learn more about Bikes for All, the Wee Spoke Hub and the Shrub co-operative.  Initially, you will start out as an assistant. You will be able to volunteer as a facilitator once you have gained the trust of the co-operative and its volunteers.
