Community Bike Workshop Assistant

The Wee Spoke Hub is a friendly, relaxed and not-for-profit cycling initiative aiming to overcome barriers to cycling. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-8pm our amazing volunteers offer people the opportunity to learn how to fix their bikes in a relaxed and non-patronising way in our community bike workshop space at the Shrub Swap and Reuse Hub in central Edinburgh.


Outline of role:

In this role, volunteers are asked to aid the running of our friendly, open and fun community bike maintenance workshop. The aim of the workshop is to teach others about bike maintenance in a relaxed and supportive environment.


Skills, experience and attitude needed:

  • a patient, sociable and non-judgemental attitude
  • attention to detail
  • willingness to learn about bike maintenance (previous experience is beneficial but not essential)

When/how many hours:

Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 5-8pm. Volunteers are asked to sign-up for sessions in advance.


As a volunteer you will also be part of the Wee Spoke Hub working group which meets regularly to make decisions about all things Wee Spoke Hub. Volunteers are encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings and Shrub open meetings.

All new volunteers will be invited to come along for a short induction in which you will learn more about Bikes for All, the Wee Spoke Hub and the Shrub co-operative.
