Governance and Policy Volunteer

About SHRUB Cooperative

SHRUB Cooperative is a charity in Edinburgh working for a world without waste!

We empower our community to live a low carbon life. We have volunteers involved in every aspect of running a charity, so whether you want to help us run a swapshop, provide communications support, learn accounting, help run our bike workshop or help us develop how the organization is governed (or be involved in any other aspect of running a charity), we’ve got opportunities for you!

About the Opportunity

As a Governance and Policy volunteer, you will work with us to develop our ways of working, helping us improve our non-hierarchical decision-making and developing new policies to make sure our organisation works best for everyone.

The tasks will include researching models for policies, looking into similar organisations and finding out best practice, coordinating with other working groups and SHRUB as a whole and developing, writing up and helping implement the best possible policies taking into account SHRUB’s community.

SHRUB is an ever-evolving organisation keen to drive practical learning in consensus decision making and alternative governance, and thus as a Governance and Policy volunteer you’ll play a crucial role in developing accessible and interesting models. You’ll learn about alternative modes of decision-making and governance in a very practical context, seeing your work come into action in a vibrant community organisation in Edinburgh.
