Space Maker – Renovations Volunteer

Space Maker (Renovations & Interior Design)

Background:

For the past 5 years our beloved Community Sustainability Hub at 13 Guthrie Street has hosted a Swapshop, Freeshop, DIY Bike Repair Workshop, Bikes for All project, Upcycling Workshops, Social Events, Social Justice Movie Nights, Office space and more crammed in to one small premises.

But now, our Shrub is branching out!

We are now renting 13 Guthrie Street (Bike Workshop and Office), 17 Guthrie Street (Workshops & Events, Cineshrub, Office – {renovations complete!}), and 22 Bread Street (Swapshop, Foodsharing Hub & Café).

What’s involved in the role:

The 3 main types of people we are looking for are:

  • artistic/aesthetic,
  • handy/practical,
  • organisational/logistical.

There is a big range of tasks that we need your help with to set up the two spaces – Bike Workshop and Swapshop/Café:

  • Painting walls and murals
  • artistic decoration – making the space beautiful and interesting, this ranges from graphic design to making upcycled sculptures,
  • Sourcing furniture and materials for the renovations, scouring the internet and asking local companies to help out.
  • putting up shelves: woodwork and DIY,
  • making eye-catching & informative signs,
  • moving and sorting stock, organising where things will go once we are up and running,
  • cooking food to fuel the volunteers who are helping to do all that!

Details:

Expenses: we can cover bus fare if needed and will be providing lunch to volunteers.
