Can you share the freedom of getting around by bike? Cycle Buddies give a little of their time to spread the joy of cycling. Whether mapping, chatting, or riding with participants, you don’t need to be highly experienced. Find out how you can help.

EXAMPLE BUDDY TASKS

  • 💼 Share a commute - help someone to start cycling to work or college/university, on a route that suits their needs

  • 🔦 Light the path - in darker months, help others navigate poorly-lit areas (particularly journeys after work)

  • 🏠 Be a neighbourhood guide - a short cycling tour for residents to see what they can access in their part of Edinburgh (aimed at new residents)

  • 🗺️ Mapping - planning routes to suit participants’ needs

  • 💬 Quick chats - signpost participants to the right support

REQUIREMENTS

For riding support: good awareness of your own cycling ability and confidence - you do not need to cycle on roads, but some on-road experience would be desirable

BENEFITS

  • Easy to fit within your own travel routine - location is considered when matching buddies

  • Support people in your local area

  • Access to free cycle training, to boost your own skills and confidence
